7 months

Eamon is 7 months old today.

He's definitely bigger than a month ago, (or two - blue chair for scale), although no doctor's visit this month, so no numbers for you all.

His ability to dress himself has not improved. Hence, things like this happen to him.

New category:
Hair: reddish(?) blond (Dad, don't even start). Eyes: Still blue with brown in the middle.

New food: green beans, peas, whole grains (commercial millet/spelt/barley, because I just can't get barley smooth enough on my own - and has anyone out there intentionally eaten spelt?). He's eating a lot more of everything. Still prefers normal glassware to anything designed for babies, and hey, he gets a bath at the same time! (On that note, he's still enjoying showers, although showing a greater tendency to drink the shower water.)

Eamon can now say a variety of random syllables (alala, aga, ahoo, ssseh (which puts him way ahead of me at that age, "s"-wise)), but still is clearest with "dadadadada"

He is scooting backwards with confidence now, and in the last few days he has figured out how to connect it with his rolls to get where he wants. He's only really stumped if the object of his desire is about two inches past his reach directly in front of him (take advantage of that? who? me?).

And a couple of weeks ago he popped out two teeth - bottom front. Fang lost the race. Have yet to get a picture of that, but he'll gladly gnaw on your fingers (arms, calves) and show you!

I'm even content with my own fist, thanks! Well, that, and the wind in my hair...

Not distracted... Artistic?

And sometimes, he's really into his food....

.... and his food is really into (and on) everything!
[Edited to add: you really have to click on that picture - and look at my leg, his legs, his shorts, his chair - to appreciate fully. We tried to make squash puree pancakes. Squish is a better descriptor.]

Distracted?

Sometimes, he's not as interested in his food...

...as he is in the fun photo in his bib.
Good thing he smiles.

Mesa Trail

Eamon's first hike, last Sunday - Mesa Trail, NCAR to .... some point near Chautauqua. Thanks to all the rain this year, it's still really green, with lots of wildflowers. Very pretty!

(I did most of the hike with E in the Ergo.. Ray got the backpack, which weighed about the same, and took E for the last hike up.)

Alli, Nick, and Jana were our hiking companions. Pretty Flatirons (red rock formation) in the background.

Eamon also got his first trip to the pool on Sunday, but we skipped the camera for that. Next time!

Who Do I Look Like?

I think, with every child, people enjoy the debate as to which parent the child looks like. Lately, people have been coming up with a consistent answer in Eamon's case. I ask you all to vote. I think the identities of the other members of this gallery are obvious.

Evidence: #1

E:

Evidence: #2

What do you think?? My sources are out of contact right now, but maybe I'll try to get ahold of more professional shots of #2. Until then - opinions?

More from La Junta

Eamon worked on lots of skills while he was in La Junta (unfortunately, he's too young to work on his Mexican food and cantaloupe consumption, so I did that for him).

Some skills are now old hat.

Grandma introduced him to beads.

He practiced his serious face on the beads.

Grandpa played too. A little too hard, apparently (at one point all three boys were crashed out, but this is easily the least comfortable napping spot chosen).

And of course, there was much practice in incredible cuteness.

Baby.. in a backpack?

Eamon has decided to accept the Ergo carrier again, which is fantastic for me (sooo much easier on the back!). He has always liked the Bjorn, but I do like the Ergo, particularly on back for shopping (hard to shop when he grabs *everything*).

Shopping with him in the Ergo generates a lot of smiles, so when I went to get groceries yesterday I grabbed some pics with my cameraphone to see why.

Perhaps it's my extra appendages.

Or the way he passes out.

What do you think?

Oh, hallo...

Oh, hallo...

Sorry it's been a bit quiet around here. Mom and Dad have been traveling, then Mom's working more... and now? They both got new toys. So, well, that leaves me to communicate with you all, I guess. Perhaps I'd better work on being able to feed myself, in case this keeps up.

Step one: Increase mobility...

Ohhhhh, that was tiring. Maybe I'll just work on being unignorably cute instead.
Yup, that should do it.

(note from the editor- the new toys include a new camera for me, via my United miles. Fujifilm (huh, where's the film?), thanks to all of you who have let us play with yours.)

Eamon and my mother. Another garden, which he loves.

Eamon's Modeling Beginning

Click on Eamon to check out Jen's etsy page (and maybe get yourself your own Lessinger custom wear). The onesie pretty much covers it, don't you think?

It's been a long week - Ray actually flew all week, and I'm working more and home a little bit less... more updates as we get it all in balance.

Happenings.. Milestones

Eamon has started to scoot. Backwards. This is actually amusing as he tries to get at something in front of him and then ends up further from it. But then.. he runs into something. The couch, the crib side... And he pushes himself up onto hands and knees and bounces there for a bit before deciding he's stuck, collapsing back to the ground and rolling elsewhere (or yelling until we "unstick" him).

Not long now.

And, to follow the header of "things people close to us have warned me about recently"... He's got a tooth or two. We haven't made the call the the first tooth is officially out, but it's a matter of form at this point. Fang has been outraced, and he will be starting like a normal baby with his bottom two teeth.

EEK. It's like he's growing up or something.

No pretty pictures for you today, I'll be in quiet corner thinking about this (or trying not to). See the post below for pretty.
