Do you ever have a day...

that goes something like this:

Ray's parents were here last weekend, and there are great pics. There are other great pics. All of which need to be edited first... I'm behind, so you get this. More to come, as always.

(Illustrative video thanks to one Dad with nerves of steel and a very normal day with boy destructo.)
(Yes, that is the sound of a dowel hitting an iphone case.)

In Other News

See the one on the right, holding up his medal and looking off at some other camera? Probably his mom's? That'd be my nephew - third place in the wrestling tournament! Nice job, Steven!

Two Men and Some Wings

What's up, Mom? We're just hanging out, eating some wings.
Ya know, checking out the dogs on the deck, all that...it's a hard life.

The second picture makes me pretty sure he got Ray's mom's cheeks. Enjoy your Friday cute, I'm going to go find a warm patio! Probably in another state, from the look of the forecast...

First Words

First, a warning- you may have to reload this page after watching the first video to see the second....

Last Thursday, Eamon woke up with his second word, all wrapped up and ready to bestow on me the minute he got up.

But first: I've been trying to get video of his first word for a while, and Ray finally came up with the perfect opportunity on Saturday when Eamon woke up from his nap with it.

It is sort of worrisome when your child wakes up with (in tones audible from the floor below) "UH-OH".

I think he was commenting on the state of his diaper. Still not sure. But, since he was in the mood, we got this (via me hiding in the hall):
Note how deliberate he is about it.

Eamon's second word was equally useful. It took me a bit to realize that he rarely means it unless it comes with a firm headshake. Here's the video I shot for Ray last Thursday (excuse the one-handed videography):
If you can't hear his second word in the clip, it's the word I most dreaded.. "No".... Turns out it's pretty funny when he uses it when he doesn't really mean it. For our parents, I'm sure there's general amusement to be found here - go chuckle to yourselves. Quietly, please - we're talking over here.

Sleep, sleep, sleep...

Eamon had a rough week last week. He got his first molar AND strep throat. It was like Christmas and Easter, all wrapped together. Except... not. He mostly wanted to be carried and sleep. Which brings me to the photos... I realized I have a lot of cute photos of sleep (I love the one of him and Ray)...

April 09-There is nothing better than a baby passed on on you. This was a weekend goal for  a while...
May 09-
Early June 09-
Late June 09-My favorite.
July 09- He was pretty much done with the whole "taking naps on the parents" thing, sadly...but I caught a rare moment of the "baby sleeping in child's play pose"
February 2010- Note the crazy hair. He may sleep quietly on his belly, but it's not calm...
March 2010- This is how he took his naps last week - in the carrier, walking on the creek path, in this case.
Hope that brings a calm start to your week. He's feeling much better now, and creating great chaos. Videos to come in the next few days.

Springtime in the Rockies

It has been gorgeous the last few days. The earlier post included a pic from a couple of days ago. It got warmer after that. E and I went for a walk yesterday and got hot in t-shirts.

This sums up today's weather shift: the scene outside Eamon's daycare when I picked him up. They finally brought out the yard toys yesterday:

If we were in Memphis, those cars would be empty because their drivers are all somewhere trying to buy bread and milk.

Brrr.

Swingin'

He's come a looong way. Same swing (although he is in it backwards because, well, I didn't know there was a backwards). He loves the swings now. And the crawling about. Not so sure about the slides yet.... but he cried when I pulled him out of that swing, and was very happy when I put him back in.

And that... is your Friday cute. Again, a beautiful metaphor- my spring break starts today! I still have to work at CU, but a week to get caught up on class should cut down the stress over here.

Helping Dad

What, Mom, you think Dad needs help?
Let me see...

Signs of Spring

The red-breasted toddler is first spotted on the playground after working hard at daycare.
He makes his own unique song.

Lo, it is a happy one, for spring is coming, the weather is warming, and he will return to the grounds of play.

Momtrapped

No, this previous post was not actually the first time Eamon had gotten stuck in a stool. Just the first time he did it to himself. His evil mother did this to him while we were in Winter Park with the Grunzingers. When I look at these pics, it's hard for me to believe he can't talk yet - he can sure get his mood across, regardless. I'm probably lucky he can't also dial Amnesty International...

However, Ray and I both failed on captions for this one... anyone??

Pretty Princess

Eamon's new favorite toy.
It came with the other craigslist freebies. I'm sure he has no idea what/who it is (and I'm pretty sure it's Disney, but which one?) It does make me smile, particularly since he does know enough to try to make her "walk" across his tray.

Happy.

A Growing Boy and His Drunken Noodles

I'm still swimming upstream, so how about a pure photo post? Ray took me out for sushi last weekend, and it was funny how much easier it has gotten to keep Eamon entertained during a longer lunch. He loved the edamame and drunken noodles, and even ate off of a plate for a while before trying to use it as a projectile. I think it was the eating off of the plate that killed me - he looks so... boy.

I wasn't too verklempt, though - I had sushi, and half of that bottle of nigori sake you see Ray with (which was the lowest-alcohol sake I've ever seen, fortunately). Oh, and Eamon didn't much like the fortune cookie, so I had to help with that...

Quiet

Sorry it's a little quiet around here this week. I'm in deep need of spring break and one week to go. The quiet is by no means due to a lack of material. That boy up there is changing by the day. He has learned to throw overhand (I can't wait to get him to his cousins). He is a little mimic. He is trying every way to get about except walking - preferably climbing. But his mom? She is out of creative juice. So... unless Ray steps up, it may be a little quiet here for a couple more days. But I promise hilarity and cute very soon.

Send chocolate, people. Or more marinara. Not for mom. For me!! The chocolate is yummy and the marinara makes such a soothing hair-and-face scrub....

Mee-mo-te?

It's one of his favorite toys. The scary thing is that he knows to point it at the TV. And he doesn't see TV watching five days of the week...

Men at Work

I mentioned that we rearranged the couches last weekend. This included Ray cleaning all the floors (yay!) Eamon is usually in the Bjorn when Ray vacuums, so the minute Ray started cleaning, Eamon was at his feet, arms up to be picked up.
He likes to "help".
And, of course, one should follow hard work with a mango break (note half the couch in the background).

13 months.. and a couple of days

I'm a little behind here, but Eamon hit 13 months on Saturday.

The changes are slower, less obvious, until  they smack us in the face like they did yesterday. He gets whatever we're eating, although he'd far prefer that this involve yogurt or noodles. He's constantly narrating his world, although we still don't understand most of it. He patently understands us, although he prefers to ignore that fact when convenient. He uses signs, although I've yet to see one really make sense ("milk" when he is drinking, and then sometimes at random.. "where", at random... "all done", sometimes, when we don't get him out of the highchair fast enough). "Uh-oh" remains his main discernible word.

He has learned to throw this week (as in, windup like a quarterback, and CHUCK), and is practicing like crazy. Now he needs to learn that spaghetti and hard blocks are not ideal practice tools. He is still cruising, but a couple of short bouts of standing have let us know we're on notice again, and let him know that the floor is still hard. Stairs are in no manner an obstacle. We were redoing our sofas today, and he was happily crawling off and on the bases while we worked.

Still six teeth. Fang and companion threatened earlier this week... I'm sure they'll be back.
Whatever, Dad, I can get down from here just fine... and I'm outta here!
